Inspire Me: Healthy Week 3: where I reveal what I eat, what I weigh and show you myself in a BIKINI!

Kristen and I are back for our get healthy weekly link-up!

Photobucket

Or as I like to think of it, Operation: Get Skinny. But again, that's my opinion, please don't let it offend you if being healthy is the most important thing to you. I mean, it is, but I've never shied away from stating how I really feel, and that's how yes, I do want to be a skinny bitch.  (Minus the bitch part...maybe. *wink*)

Ok. The before picture. The dreaded before picture. I must preface and say how I never, ever in a million years thought I would show the world* myself in a bikini at my heaviest weight ever (minus being pregnant, but even then, where am I now is only about ten pounds less than when I was nine freaking months pregnant). Why did I decide to do it? Well, for one, seeing Kristen show her before pictures totally inspired me (and that bish is a looker to start with) and two, I am very vain and I knew if I showed a before picture, I would be so embarrassed to have to report that I went up in pounds the next week.

So. Let's just get this over with. Rip the bandaid off in one fail swoop.

Prepare your eyes...

Just NO

Two things about when and where I gain weight: I gain top to bottom, hair follicle to toenail. Except, my face never really seems to budge. Which is why sometimes, when I tell people my current weight, they look a little shocked. Because my current weight?

166.5

Again, I can't believe I just let the world* in on that fact, but the reason I did? Because by letting everyone know, I am forced to get my ass into gear and GET. SKINNY. Because if I can help it, I will never, and I repeat never weigh an ounce over 166.5 in my life. This weight is the maximum for me. The end. It's all downhill from here.

My goal weight?

130

Which is almost where I was exactly three years ago.

Photobucket

The left picture? Me today. The right? Me at 134 pounds. What a difference thirty pounds makes! Of course, my sweet tan needs to find itself back to my epidermis, but we're working on an upcoming Hawaii trip that will do just that.

Side note: A few of you asked about stretch marks, and why I don't have any after birthing two children. For one, I hear stretch marks have a big part to do with genetics, and my mom nor my grandma have any themselves. Two, I bathed myself in cocobutter the entire nine months I was pregnant. Some say this tactic doesn't work, but for me, I've always compared it to this: if you take a simple rubber band and don't moisturize it, when it stretches way far out it will get dry and crack in various places, but if you take that same rubber band and moisturize the heck out of it, when it stretches out and goes back in, it will retain it's shape because it was nice and oiled up. Again, this is only my opinion and I'm no expert when it comes to stretch marks. End side note.

In the meantime, I need to get Hawaii-worthy.

Which is why I have majorly changed my eating habits. The most drastic change is my decision to go back to being a vegetarian. After re-reading a book that totally changed my outlook on food, and after re-watching a documentary that did the same, I am right back where I was here, three years ago and at my leanest weight ever. Being a vegetarian isn't a "fad" I'm going through to lose weight quick (although it is a great added benefit) but it's a lifestyle I plan to hopefully implement for life. I did it before, and I will do it again. (Again, this is the approach and the convictions that are personal to me. I don't try to force my beliefs on anyone nor judge someone for doing differently.)

At the country club the other day, while watching my kids swim at the pool, I got hungry and ordered myself a walnut strawberry chicken salad. I had ordered it a few times in the past, and it had been a favorite of mine. Until this particular time. I went to cut the chicken into bite sized pieces and I encountered little stringy "plastic-like" vein-y tentacle-like bits (best way I can describe it) that were hard to cut apart. It brought me right back to the chapter in the book Skinny Bitch about how chickens were raised and brought up to be slaughtered and produced for human consumption. And right then and there I almost puked in my mouth and set aside every piece of chicken and ate only the salad.

I just couldn't bring myself to eat the meat.

Photobucket

And thus started my re-entry into living a vegetarian lifestyle. We're going on four days now and so far? So good. (Btw, I am not a fan of Peta whatsoever. Even though I think their message is good, their tactics are horrible and offensive and totally counterproductive.)

So what do I eat? Fortunately for me, I LOVE vegetables. For the past few months, breakfast almost always is a wrap with goat cheese (my favorite), onions, tomatos, lettuce and Franks Red Hot. Trust me, about 8:30 am? I'm craving this wrappy goodness.

Photobucket

Lunch lately has been a grilled goat cheese, pesto, onion, tomato and mayo sandwich on whole wheat bread. I just pile it on and grill it over medium heat until the cheese is melted and the crust is browned.

Photobucket

Dinner? This one is a little harder, because hubs and the chitlins have not yet jumped on Mommas vegetarian bandwagon. (However, my boys have become accustomed to vegetarian chicken nuggets. They can't even tell the difference. This brand is their favorite.) So, I usually always make a full meal which consists of meat, veggies and some sort of starch. However, kind of like back when I was a full-on vegetarian, I only eat the salad and a smidge of the starch.

And like I said earlier? I LOVE veggies. I just slice up a whole bunch of 'em, drizzle a little olive oil, shake some salt and pepper on and put them over the BBQ. And then I eat by the handful.

Photobucket

So. No meat for me. Vegetarian all the way. Thirty pounds to lose.

It can be done.

It will be done.

Now go link up on Kristen's page so we can see the progress ya'll are making!

world* Just a little tongue in cheek. No, I don't think the whole world is reading my blog.

  2. Raven!! You look great no matter what!!! For real for real! I def want all those veggies and that wrap right now!

    ReplyDelete
  3. You look amazing! Seriously! I'm 5'4'' and about 155 depending on the day, and I look like a tub of lard. I think almost anyone also has the pooch on their belly from being pregnant. The only people who don't have them are celebrities who get tummy tucks at the same time as their c-section! I wish my body could look as great as yours!

  4. Geez girl, I would die for your before picture! You look great in my opinion. I am big-boned and have always had some weight issues. Reading posts like this make me want to make some changes too. Good luck! : )

    ReplyDelete
  5. Dnt be so hard on yourself, Raven. You're a pretty girl... You will drop this little bit of weight in no time.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Good luck Raven! I think you look great either way. You seem determined and I know you will do this. Have a great weekend.

  7. It goes without saying, but you're awesome--for being honest, beautiful and healthy. Way to go and good luck with your goals!

  8. When I am eating out and encounter weird vein-like things in my chicken, I freak out and think about becoming a vegetarian too.

You look great, and your before photo is gorgeous! You'll be there soon!

  9. Get it girl! I went crazy after I had Vaughn. I went from being 120lbs to 150lbs.. and I'm 5'2". I started working out 3 weeks after giving birth (instead of the doctor ordered 6. I just couldnt..) and ran 3 miles a day for two months. I got back to 120.. I'm actually 115 now but my body is not.. tight lets just say lmao. I didnt get stretch marks on my stoamch either only two spots on the front of my thighs for some reason but they are not that noticeable.. I am starting my workout plan again this monday. If you saw my 3 years ago picture you would DIE but it's pretty skanky for me so I can't post it hahaha.. but I'll show you if you want!

  10. Oh, oh and i've been eating Paleo lately and girl.. shit is good. I just made brownies with no sugar, no flour, no butter and a whole zucchini. No lie they were AMAZING and I felt no remorse at all.

    ReplyDelete
  11. My two year old saw your pictures and called you a princess! Aren't little kids awesome.

I think youbactuallyblook great in both pictures and I think 165 ish is my goal weight. How tall are you? I wouldn't mind looking like you "before" or after but that's probably out of the question.

    ReplyDelete
  12. You look amazing in both pictures!!! Good for you for posting this - I wish I could be a vegetarian....I'm considering trying it out....after I eat a filet mignon at my hubby's bday dinner next week:) Good luck!! Can't wait to see your progress!

  13. I love that bathing suit! and I didn't get stretch marks either. People were amazed because in the end my son was ten lbs and my tummy got HUGE but not one mark on me. My mom never got stretch marks with us kids too so probably is genetic.

  14. And now I go cry in the corner with Domino's cheesy bread because even at 166, you are a way hotter twat than I will EVER BE.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wish I looked like you in a bikini for real. Keep at it girl! I am a vegetarian too and pinterest helps with recipes and ideas for eating for one. : )

  16. You are amazing, Raven! Thanks for posting your before pictures, your weight and your goal. Accountability is everything and a major motivator! You can do this!

  17. Go girl!!! I need to get my ass to the gym asap! You girls are making me feel like a fat slob.
You look amazing & I will prob hate you more if you get down to 130. Just saying' ;)

  18. Raven, say what?! I don't believe you really weight that amount; you look MUCH smaller than that!! Perhaps you've got 20 pounds hanging out in the chest area? Hehehe. Your before picture shows a beautiful Mama! But I will admit, your after picture is the type of lady I'd cut if she waltzed into my husband's line of view and shimmed her shoulders a bit... Then cyber stalk to see what she eats, how she works out, where she tans - - oh, wait. I already do that by reading your blog! You are going rock this challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have all intentions of reading this book I just have not yet. I eat a mostly vegetarian but I do occasionally eat some meat mainly turkey or chicken. Ya gotta do what is best for you! Not for nothing I wish I looked like what you look like in a bikini! I need to get the balls to post a bikini pic.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've just recently become vegetarian too because of the same reason! About a month ago, I cooked a chicken breast (just like I've done a million times) and the texture of it; that stringy tough texture, almost made me vomit. That day I decided "nope, no more meat". I'll still do fish (so I'm technically a pescatarian) but I'm like you, I'll gobble up some roasted veggies like there's no tomorrow.

And you look great by the way! Seriously. Everybody is always so hard on themselves.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You are gorgeous!! I hope you get to whatever weight YOU feel best! I am also curious how tall you are? Can't wait to hear your progress next week. I'm trying to gain weight and like seeing everyones progress! :)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Love your blog and you look great!!!! I recently lost 30 pounds and was at your same starting weight! You can do this ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. YAY! Excited to see your transformation, keep up the positive thinking and you can do it for sure! And I'll be joining you in about 7 weeks. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. Okay, so honest (and no lesbo) but for a mother of TWO your before pictures are AMAZING. there, I said it. now that it's out of the way, I totally get how / why you'd want to feel better about yourself, but you have to remember how great it is that you are so open and honest. kudos for sharing the details... I still haven't gotten the guts to share my beginning / current / goal weights!

    ReplyDelete
  25. GREAT job girl. And good job on revealing the before pics..you are a brave soul but you def don't look as bad as I'm sure you think you look! :) I love the vegetarian references and I know you can do this too! I'm sure of IT!

    ReplyDelete
  26. You look awesome girl but I hear ya about not being happy in your own body! You can do this and you will do great! I also don't have any stretch marks from baby #1 and hoping not to get any with baby #2 here....I lather myself up with cocoabutter every single day while pregnant and I totally swear by it (oh and by genetics too).
Also, that wrap you have in the moring sounds to die for...now I am hungry for one! I am going to have to make a trip to the grocery store tonight, yum!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. While I think you look awesome, I definitely get wanting to be the best version of yourself, and am attempting that as well. I also completely understand the chicken horror after reading Skinny Bitch. I don't think I can go vegetarian since I don't really love vegetables, but I definitely prefer fish over chicken or beef. Also agree about PETA...their approach to their beliefs are pretty alienating :-/

    ReplyDelete
  28. I think you look fabulous at your current weight! However, I know how I feel when I'm not at my best weight for my body so more power to you on your goal! You're inspiring and funny!

    ReplyDelete
  29. My goal is 130 too! Thats what I was right before I went to college and I am at 143 now. I have been running and trying to eat better, I just love processed food. Love this linkup, posting my soon!

    ReplyDelete
  30. You got this in the bag Raven!

    ReplyDelete
  31. First off- I HATE you for not gaining weight in your face...yeah I said it ;) I gain a pound and 3/4 of it goes to my face. Pisses me off to no end. I always said that I would NEVER be a vegetarian, and now I have the SAME issues when I eat meat. If I come across a tendon or grissle, you better hide while I run to the bathroom. So gross. You got this girl! I love you!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You look amazing in both pictures!!! I wish my before picture looked like yours. You are way braver than I am to post them online. I took them, but printed them off and taped them to my inspiration board. You totally got this in the bag, no worries!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Good luck raven! You can totally do the damn thing girl! Two questions, how tall are you! And how long do think it will take you to lose the weight?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Who the hell doesn't gain weight in their face? Damn you! Also, I feel like my 135 lb ass looks nothing like your cute, little photo up there. So damn you, again!

    1. I agree. Really, who doesn't gain weight in their face. That's the FIRST place mine goes to. Ugh.

      Delete
  35. OKay.... FIRST of all.. you look great darling. Don't beat yourself up. BUT I know what it is like to not be happy with yourself. I'm there now, and trying to work on it. And you totally just rocked it.. I'm inspired to get more serious now!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. First off you look fabulous in both pictures, and girl you are not fat - I can show you fat. Kudos to you for wanting to eat healthy though! I have tried, and failed, tried again and failed again. Potato chips are just so addicting! I would love to eat more fruits and vegetables.. but my will power is nonexistent.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You are a brave soul and I have so much respect for you for having the courage to come out with your actual weight number (which isn't high, btw!!). You look fab already and will be just that much more confident once you start shedding some lbs. How tall are you?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Girl!! Props to you for posting your before! You look so great already, but SO excited to follow along as you reach your goal!! #letsdothis

    ReplyDelete
  39. 1) "chitlins"-- I die.
    2) chicken has slowly started to creep me out. I've always been weird about the "fatty" part of meat and you'll see huge chunks of it left on my plate if I get steak... I also refuse to buy lean cuisines for lunch that have meat in them (AKA rubber. ew.) and will often order things with meat in it: chicken caesar salad, chicken wild rice soup, and eat around the chicken. so weird. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I need this book asap.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Yeah I agree with all of the other comments- you look great. You can make it to 30 lbs- it sounds like you are driven and have good discipline. Can't wait to see your progress!

    ReplyDelete
  42. You're still a sexy bish

    ReplyDelete
  43. Man, you are strong for going back to vegetarian - I've never done it, but I don't know that I have that kind of willpower! Hah. You are going to rock the Skinny Bitch Weight Loss program!

I've been told going gluten free helps with migraines & since I get those WAY too often, I might try and incorporate that into my diet. Maybe it'll help me with my goals :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well YOU look fabulous! but I so know that its HOW YOU FEEL that makes the big difference! and when we are unhappy with ourselves... watch out WORLD .. cuz then we feel the entire world is ... so i get it! :) WAY TO GO for posting your before pic! :) ITS BRAVE and STRONG! :) and you will meet your goal! :) WAY TO GO! on the healthy foods!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Like I said before, you're such a hottie. I know you want to tone up and get back to the 3 years ago weight, so I am standing behind you! You go giiiirl! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. You are so perfect YOU BISH!!! I wish thats what I started with!!

    ::insert EVIL GLARE HERE::

  47. I did vegetarian for 3 months and ended up gaining weight because all I was eating was pasta and bread #fail! I would love to try it again the healthier way because this bish also love veggies!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I am so proud of you for posting your before pic! While I still think you're one hot momma, I know that it's how you feel about yourself that really matters. No amount of compliments can change the fact that sometimes we just feel like fat cows - oh that's just me? Anyway, I'm going to be cheering you on (I'm a cheer coach after all - but not one of those rah-rah annoying ones. Yuck!) throughout your weight loss journey! I know you'll do it and you'll be so happy about yourself and just be a skinny version of the awesome person you already are! Get it, girl! You're inspiring me to do that same and lose these random pounds that don't need to be on my bod. Back to my wedding weight and skinniness it is. And I'm with you - being healthy is of course key, but damn being skinny feels good :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Go girl!! I think you'll be ready for Hawaii in no time! I'm also a vegetarian, those chicken veins are what make me gag and dry heave. I'm a (semi)vegan because of the cutie patootie animals. But I didn't think about it being good for weight too! I still think you look fab! And not trying to butta you up either! ;)

  50. Ok, I did one of these posts too at the beginning of the year where I told the dreaded "number" but I can promise you one thing: AMERICA and all the 10 PEOPLE THAT READ MY BLOG WILL NEVER EVER SEE ME IN A BIKINI UNLESS I LOSE 50 POUNDS! You have big girl balls and I like it!

Before I got pregnant, I actually weighed less than you and I can NOT rock a bikini at your heaviest. You are wearing it right, sister! But self image means a lot to us so I fully understand your desire to shed a few. But YOU LOOK GREAT RIGHT NOW! I bet a little tan would make you feel better! =)

And, I can give up all meat except chicken. I've even read Skinny Bitch and watched Food Inc. I still can't give it up. It's very sad.

  51. You look great! I was just wondering how tall you are?

  52. You're beautiful Raven Pants!

    ReplyDelete
  53. You are SO brave for sharing your weight on your blog. I don't think I could do it... I weigh a few pound more than you do (literally, just a few. Like maybe 4.) And I look much thicker than you do. Isn't is crazy how our bodies put weight in different places?

I don't think that I could go full vegetarian. I love meat. I can't even eat a cheese pizza without wanting some pepperoni or something on it to feel full. Maybe it's all in my head. Who knows. BUT you're inspiring me to get healthy! I need, need, need to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You are beautiful! I just wanted you to know that, putting yourself out there to be judged by others is hard. What a inspiration you are! Before I linked up I wanted to tell you that you are beautiful the way you are. :)

  55. I think you look great!
But I know exactly how you feel about wanting to improve yourself.
    You can do it girl!!

  56. I love this series and I totally love your honesty! And that huge pile of bbq'd veggies is my idea of heaven!

  57. Oh friend... you look amazing. Even at your highest weight. Thanks for posting that. You make me - and a ton of other people - feel better. And I never gained weight in my face... until that one time when I did. Its so alarming when that happens. But thanks for being inspirational. I started my juice cleanse because of your link up. I liked up over on Kristin's blog. I will link to yours next week.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Raven, you are absolutely stunning- current and goal pictures. Thank you for always keeping it real and going where most people (including myself) are afraid to go. Your blog is one of my must-reads and I love hearing what you have to say. Keep it up, hot mama!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I think it's so awesome that you had the guts to blog your 'Before' weight! I am so nervous to do so, only because I have been watching that number fluctuate so much in the last 6 months, and like you said, how embarrassing would it be to next week have to say I GAINED weight. But you've inspired me! And maybe, just maybe, that would be the push I need.

PS: You look pretty darn hot now. Just saying.

  60. Raven you have a fantastic body!!! My goal weight right now is 165! I'd love to look like you! How tall are you? You must be tall cuz you carry your weight well.
