Take me to the movies!

I love going to the movies. At least I really used to, before teenagers started thinking it was perfectly acceptable to not only text while the movie was playing but to take a phone call in the theater and proceed to have a ten minute conversation! I mean, really? And don't even get me started on loud popcorn eaters or people who kick the back of your chair.

However, despite all that, there are some movies I absolutely require to see on the big screen. To get my house-sized diet coke because it was a nickel more than the medium and comes with free refills (ok, that one is a joke, right? Who in the world could drink that much coke and need a refill during a two hour movie? Yet I get sucked in every time...), my colossal bag of popcorn, sit down, relax and get lost in a good film. Sometimes, all the chair kicking and loud popcorn eaters are totally worth it.

One movie I already know will be worth it? Side Effects. Not only does it have an amazing cast, but psychological thriller type movies are my favorite by far. I like to be challenged while watching a movie, and to be kept on the edge of my seat. The IMDb describes Side Effects as "A successful New York couple's world unravels when a new anti-anxiety drug prescribed by Emily's psychiatrist has unexpected side effects." Ok, so let's just state the obvious up front. I would see a movie with Channing Tatum and Jude Law no matter what it was about. I mean....

but the fact that the storyline seems really interesting makes this a win-win. I love what the premise of the movie is about: side effects of a new drug that is on the market and how it alters a person, good or bad. Obviously, since I myself take an anti-anxiety to help with my issues, this topic has always been something I've been really interested in. And the main women characters? I love me some Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rooney Mara.

Bonus? I won't have to drag my husband along with me. Not only would he be happy to sit and stare at Catherine for a couple hours, but I'm pretty sure he will enjoy this film just as much as me.

Not only does this movie have an amazing cast, but it's directed by none other than Steven Soderbergh. I've loved his movies in the past and have no doubt Side Effects won't disappoint. It opens in theaters February 8th and I already have a babysitter lined up. ;)
