We spent Labor Day weekend, once again, at Lake Roosevelt.
Rob's heaven on earth, he says. Besides Kauai of course, because nothing beats Kauai. And if we're being totally honest, going to the lake and camping on the beach is like, oh, 16th on my list of places I'd rather be. Even though we're mostly self contained when it comes to sleeping on the boat, we spend all of our waking hours on the beach. Cooking, drinking, playing...
and even though our crew comes with five bbq's and a stove and an actual beach oven where we can cook chicken nuggets and a five layer lasagna and a propane fire and enough food to feed us all 100x's over, I'd still totally rather be staying at the Ritz in Bora Bora. However I heard once that with marriage comes compromise so fine. I'll go beach camping with you Rob but only if I get the TV remote every time any season of The Real Housewives is on. And that includes reruns.
And fine, I guess the lake isn't totally butt ugly.
The best part of the weekend, hands down, was all the drinking I could do without the constant side eye from my mom. The second best part, was how much fun the kids had! I swear, we hardly saw them the whole time. There were no iPads, tablets, tv shows...so they had to make due like us old farts did in the olden days. They were forced to explore, have fun, catch snakes and lizards and frogs and build stick forts and walk tightrope branches and eat literal dirt.
To the kids, this wet cold and windy beach getaway was their version of the Ritz at Bora Bora. However they are only young and naive and some still get their butts wiped so what do they know, really.
My bestie ever came with us to the beach. Her kids are my kids' best friends (seriously, my 5 year old prays for her kid's xbox during his nightly prayers) and it's kind of nice knowing you always have someone on your side wherever your go.
We stayed up late drinking fireball and laughing our asses off, even if she was the only one who remembered it the next morning, still doesn't mean it never happened.
Word.
Did I mention it was freezing??
'Cause it totally was. We had a propane mini fire but on day two, a boat sheriff came by and informed us that absolutely zero fires of any kind were allowed. It was cold, it was windy, it was gloomy... and then we just decided to hot tub it on the top of a house boat.
Totally #coldwetfreezinglakepeopleproblems.
End of the day, the weekend was a success.
Actually, it literal blew like Clinton's Monica and did I mention it was absolutely arctic cold? But, we all left unscathed and without a tan, so eh.
Fine.
Lake Roosevelt is beautiful. The beaches are silky sand and the water is crystal clear. God winked on the place, ok? Still.
But you can't watch The Real Housewives on the beach, did you know that?
